The City of Peoria celebrated finishing three years of construction work in the downtown Thursday. Local, state and federal dollars went into revamping Washington, Adams and Jefferson Streets in the Warehouse District. City Councilman Ryan Spain says the finished roundabout and new roads mark a transition point:
“$30 million of infrastructure investment will lead the way now to hundreds of millions of dollars in private-sector redevelopment.”
Spain says the improved streets will attract developers to turn vacant buildings into mixed-use apartments and retail. He says the goal is to get more young people to live and shop downtown.
