Peoria Council talks demolition of North Valley properties

The Peoria City Council discussed the looming demolition of two century-old buildings in the North Valley.  At issue was who pays for the demolition:

The Council voted last month to pay more than $80,000 to raze the properties at 801 and 803 Northeast Perry.  In 2013, the non-profit South Side Office of Concern was the only group to successfully submit paperwork expressing interest in using a line of credit to redevelop the property.  But that never happened.  Resident Bill Ordaz says the Office of Concern should pay for demolition costs:

“The RFI in part stipulates that if anything changes, timeline or the project, that the letter of credit would be used for demolition.”

Ordaz also expressed interest in redeveloping the property.  City manager Patrick Urich says that the South Side Office of Concern stopped the process before having a financial stake in the properties.

“We had a party that was interested. But ultimately not a party that said yes we want to go forward,” Urich says.
