The Illinois Department of Transportation has moved the next planned detonation on the old eastbound span of the McCluggage Bridge up to tonight, Monday, April 28.

The demolition is the fourth of eight planned blasts continuing through mid-June. IDOT officials said the threat of inclement weather forced the project's move from its original date on Wednesday morning to Monday night.

Roads surrounding the bridge will be closed at 7:30 p.m.; officials said no specific time can be given for the detonation, but previous blasts closed the road for about an hour.

This explosion is expected to be the largest of the eight blasts, with the goal of taking down the main truss in the center of the bridge.

The next demolition is scheduled for the week of May 5.

More information on the rest of the demolition process is available on IDOT’s project site.
