For Washington neighborhood, a literal sign of recovery

A heavily-damaged neighborhood in Washington restored a familiar marker last week.

Workers pulled up old posts and installed three new Washington Estates signs welcoming drivers to the neighborhood.  The area was in the direct path of an EF4 tornado when it ripped through the town in 2013.

Resident Frances Riopell let the push for new signs. She says the markers bring a sense of order to the neighborhood following the tornado:

“There are so many different houses now, they don’t look the same. And this is a familiar sign, this is a familiar entrance, and maybe things will eventually fit in again. They’re starting too.”

The Tri-County Long Term Recovery group paid more than $2,000 for the three Washington Estates entrance signs entrance signs.
