New mural debuts on Peoria’s South Side

City officials and community groups unveiled a new mural on Peoria's South Side Wednesday.

The mural portrays NAACP icon John Gwynn, local basketball star Shaun Livingston, community activist Annie Jo Gordon and her daughter, state Representative Jehan Gordon-Booth. The mural is located next to TT's Barbeque on Western Avenue.  Restaurant owner Orlando Randle came up with the idea. He says he wanted to give young people visual reminder of success in their community:

"I want them to be inspired to make them think they can do it too. You know, just like them pictures on the wall, it can be their face one day."

The mural was made by local artist R. Rashad Reed. It was funded by Peoria LISC as part of an effort to boost neighborhood pride.
