A big weekend of dedications and celebrations is in store for public art lovers and activity seekers in downtown Peoria.

It begins with the City of Peoria and Big Picture Peoria holding a dedication ceremony for the mural “Play Greater” at 10 a.m. Friday at Distillery Labs.

The artwork by Bob Doucette has been installed on the Adams Street side of the city-owned Jefferson Parking Deck at 230 SW Adams St..

Big Picture then will join the Gilmore Foundation in support of Choose Greater Peoria and residents of 401 SW Water St. for the unveiling of the mounted mural “Pulling Together” at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The mural by local artist Chris LeCrone is inspired by CREW 309, a rowing team featuring breast cancer survivors.

Gilmore Foundation President and CEO Laura Cullinan says the piece “represents what is possible.”

“It’s symbolic of aligning our energy to propel the community forward,” she said in a media release. “At a time when connection, health and vibrancy are more important than ever, this mural reminds us of what we can accomplish when we pull together toward a common goal.”

The weekend concludes with Sunday’s “Go Day 2025” from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the riverfront, with Big Picture hosting a street festival along the riverfront as part of the celebration in conjunction with Choose Greater Peoria and the Peoria Riverfront Museum.

The free, family-friendly event aims to explore the intersection of athletics and the arts through interactive activities, live performances, and hands-on experiences.

“Go Day is a festival where arts and sports collide to celebrate the diversity, talent, and generosity that makes Greater Peoria great,” Cullinan said in a separate release.

Along with the street festival and “sports zone,” Go Day will feature student art exhibits and food and beverage vendors. Additionally, the Peoria Riverfront Museum is offering free admission for all guests.
