U.S. Senator Mark Kirk is pushing a measure to change the federal funding formula used after a disaster. Kirk made his comments in Washington, Illinois nearly a year-and-a-half after FEMA denied funding to the tornado-ravaged town. Kirk says a previous attempt to pass the measure failed because some lawmakers feared the change would take away disaster funding in their states:
“Reassure my Senate colleagues that it’s not going to be bad for them, it’s going to address injustices which have happened to American citizens like the ones in Washington, Illinois.”
This is the second attempt to get Congress to approve the funding change since the 2013 tornado.
