Methodist College plans $16M campus expansion

Methodist College is planning a $16 million campus expansion outside of the downtown.

The College is looking to renovate the former American Furniture Building off of War Memorial for expanded classroom space and student housing starting next fall. The college has about 600 students and running out of room for more.  College President Doctor Kimberly Johnston says the move to expand carries historic meaning:

“This is the absolute first time in 115 years of education at Methodist that we will have our own site, our own college and our own campus.”

Johnston says the 129,000 square foot expansion can add new programs and hundreds of new student housing units. She says the College plans to sell its current downtown space as part of the move into the former American Furniture building.  The City Council will consider the needed zoning changes later this month.
