UFS brings groceries to Peoria's south side

Alex Rusciano

The first district is no longer a food desert thanks to an established warehouse store.  UFS added a grocery section to their Southwest Adams location.

The store initially began carrying milk, eggs and select food items in February.  Co-owner Tom Weigand says the store is expanding their food selection to meet the needs of the buyers:

“I’m thinking about bananas, I’m thinking about maybe bringing in some other vegetables as we move forward and we get a feel for the public.”

Peoria’s south side had been without a grocery store since the Aldi’s on Western closed in 2014.
