Former 17th District Congressman and Tea Party Conservative Bobby Schilling is endorsing state Senator Darin LaHood in the special election for the 18th District Congressional Seat.

LaHood declared his intent to run for the seat earlier this month, after  scandal-plagued  Congressman Aaron Schock announced he is resigning.

Schilling says LaHood is the best person to represent 18th District residents in Congress. “We need people who are going to put America first and party second and then we move things forward. I think that is one of the things I see in Darin LaHood in leadership is somebody that is a reformer and will make a huge impact when he goes to Washington.”

Schilling says he's supporting LaHood so those who are asking him to run for the seat have a sense of his convictions.

LaHood is making the formal announcement of his candidacy today/Monday in Peoria. Bloomington Attorney and fellow Republican Mark Zalcman is the only other announced person seeking the seat.

The schedule for the special election is to be set by the governor next week.
