Awaiting Caterpillar's future plans

Caterpillar’s long-awaited facilities’ study for the future of it’s world headquarters is ready for release. Company CEO Doug Oberhelman is making the formal announcement next Friday.

Future considerations for the Headquarters facilities started more than two and a half years ago, when the company said it needed to evaluate the technological and facility needs to propel it’s growing global enterprise.

The World Headquarters at 100 North East Adams is more than 47 years-old. In that time, office technology has moved from paper memos, typewriters and rotary phones to email, laptops and smartphone technology. The company has also emerged as the world’s largest heavy equipment maker.

Caterpillar owns a total of six square blocks of land in downtown Peoria. The City of Peoria has already approved zoning changes that give Caterpillar flexibility when it comes to any future building plans.
