Peoria County’s nursing home, Heddington Oaks, now has LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Leanne Skuse is with River City Construction that built Heddington Oaks. She says the certification is an international standard that says the building is both environmentally and energy efficient:
“We had significant recycling efforts in terms of the overall construction debris and waste on the project. We recycled over 95-percent of the materials which is substantial.”
The nursing home also had systems to capture rainwater and more efficient mechanical systems. The announcement was made during the annual ‘State of the County’ address. The County is also hoping to get more public input on road funding in the coming months.
