Peoria City, County consider road agreement changes

Peoria City and County are looking to make it easier to repair and transfer roads between both municipalities.
The County is currently in charge of maintaining 16 miles of roadway located in the city of Peoria. County Administrator Lori Curtis Luther says both the City and County are expected to take up changes to an intergovernmental agreement that regulates how transferring roads works:

“The prior agreement was highly restrictive, prevented any kind of creative ways to think about how we might do things a little bit differently.”

The agreement dates back more than 40 years. Luther says the new changes would make it easier for the city and county to negotiate which roads should be worked on first. She says the next challenge will be to find enough funding to repair and transfer all of the roads to the city.
