Steiner lends name to BU program

Bradley University is naming its nationally-recognized sports communication program after one significant alumnus.

The announcement of the Charley Steiner School of Sports Communication came at the Annual Hollywood Gala in Los Angeles.

Bradley University Communications Department Chair Paul Gullifor says the gift of the long time sportscaster’s name will propel the program.

“Great faculty who want to teach in sports communication are going to be attracted to the Steiner School. And the generation of students to follow long after I’m done and Charley’s career is over there’s going to be a lot of students to benefit for years to come.”

Steiner is entering his 11th season doing play-by-play for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He’s worked for ESPN and also announced for the New York Yankees.

The official naming is considered a recognition of Steiner's achievements and comes with an undisclosed monetary gift. A formal naming ceremony is expected at Bradley in March.
