The coal-fired power plant near Bartonville is working with the state EPA to to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions according to parent company officials.
The Dynegy officials says they’ve entered into a voluntary agreement to continue using low-sulfur coals and help reduce allowable sulfur dioxide emissions by 90-percent.
Kady McFadden is with the Sierra Club Beyond Coal campaign in Peoria. She says the pollution-reductions are mandatory under the Clean Air Act. Area environmental groups have been calling for more stringent requirements on Illinois Coal-Fired Power Plants.
