The City of Washington is asking residents to steer clear of Farm Creek after a raw sewage leak.

According to a Facebook post, city crews identified a raw sewage leak in the area of Dallas Road that affects a tributary that feeds into Farm Creek near West Jefferson Street.

City crews worked to stop the leak and officials say the city’s drinking water supply and municipal water system are unaffected.

However, residents are advised to avoid contact with Farm Creek anywhere downstream of the tributary.

Farm Creek runs throughout east Washington and down along the city’s southern boundary.

Washington officials say the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has been notified of the leak and the city will be following their recommendations for next steps.
