Peoria County health initiative to tackle obesity rate

ers.usda.gov

A new three-year health initiative is launching in Peoria. The goal is to reduce obesity rates in targeted areas with after-school nutrition classes. Health Board member Sharon Williams says the initiative also offers tips on budgeting for healthy food:

“A lot of times people think that eating healthy can be more expensive. So we want to help them learn how to cook the foods, learn how to budget to be able to prepare the foods and eat healthier.”
The City/County Health Board approved nearly $200,000 in funding for the first year. Williams says staff with the Hult Center for Healthy Living, Peoria Family YWCA and Gifts in the Moment will spearhead the three-year initiative.
