A world-renowned doctor known for his contributions to the Human Genome Project is taking over cancer research at a Peoria school.
The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria Thursday named Dr. Marcelo Bento Soares as the new Senior Associate Dean for Research. He will also be the Head of Cancer Biology and Pharmacology at the school.
Soares comes from Northwestern University and has 35 years of research in genomics, genetics, and cancer biology. He replaces Dr. Jasti Rao who left last March after allegations of ethical and research misconduct.
Dr. Soares begins in February.
