Peoria Civic and Religious leaders hosted a fifth Don’t Shoot call-in Monday night. 11 men were told to stop shooting or face the toughest possible penalties.
Peoria Police Chief Jerry Mitchell says the program is working. “We are trending down as far as the number of people shot and the number of homicides. So we think with every call in we have, we’re seeing more success.”
71 young men have received the Don’t Shoot message. The young men are also offered counseling and social service help.
