Mayer, Harding retain Peoria County Board seats

Yesterday's election results mean no changes to the Peoria County Board. Peoria Public Radio's Alex Rusciano reports two incumbents will keep their seats for four more years:

Sixth District Democratic Board member Allen Mayer defeated Republican challenger Zach Oyler by 118 votes. And Republican Brad Harding defeated Democratic challenger Richard Burns by 13 percentage points in the rural 16th District.

Mayer’s top priorities include keeping the County-owned Nursing Home, Heddington Oaks, public.

One of Harding’s top issues was finding money to fix and maintain rural county roads in his district.

But both Mayer and Harding say everything is on the table when it comes to plugging the County’s projected $3.5 million budget shortfall next year. But they both voice opposition to tax increases, and say that other options need to be looked at first.
