An official with the USDA visited Rolling Acres Middle School in Peoria to tout healthy eating habits. Tim English is the Regional Administrator with the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service. He says Rolling acres is one example of how schools use multiple activities to get students to eat better:
“They have a healthy vending machine here, so all the food sold in the vending machine, the food sold on the a la carte line in the cafeteria, school fundraisers meet those healthy standards.”

English says the healthy vending machines match new federal rules that require all food served outside the cafeterias to also have healthy options. He also praised efforts by Rolling Acres staff that let kids exercise after lunch and also have a healthy ‘smoothie’ day.
