Bradley University celebrates 118th Founder's Day

Bradley University honored its faculty, staff and alumni during its 118th Founder's Day Convocation. The annual event celebrates the University’s 1897 founding by Lydia Moss Bradley.

University President Joanne Glasser discussed the founder's modest upbringing, her trials and tribulations in life and her commitment to education. Glasser says Bradley would be astonished to learn how her polytechnic institute has changed and flourished throughout the decades.

“Yet I believe she would be most proud to find that her philosophy of an education which blends career training with the classical knowledge of the liberal arts remains the unwavering model from student success provided by our Bradley experience,” said Glasser.

Glasser says Bradley will continue Lydia’s legacy in its mission to provide an outstanding education for its students and scholarly development opportunities for faculty.

The convocation included the induction of Centurions who are individuals who have become national or international leaders in their fields. Four Bradley faculty members were also selected for awards honoring their contributions to teaching, scholarship and professional excellence.
