The Peoria Housing Authority is hoping to grow its base of landlords willing to rent to Section 8 clients. The authority is kicking off monthly Section 8 Landlord Roundtable discussions Thursday.
The meetings will educate current and prospective property owners in Peoria County about the program, and give them the opportunity to ask questions. The Section 8 program allows low-income participants to live in regular housing developments with the help of rent subsidies.
Robin Redding is the Director of the housing program. She says the PHA continues to look for suitable landlords to house its clients as the rental market remains competitive.
“We do have several individuals out there currently that are looking for housing, and some people are having a tough time. The client initially received 60 days to locate a suitable unit, and we do have a lot of our clients coming back in asking for an extension,” said Redding.
Redding says Section 8 participants can receive another 60 days to find housing.
The first roundtable discussion is Thursday afternoon at 5. Landlords who want to attend should contact the PHA, and ask for Timm Krueger at 309-676-8736, ext 14036.
