A project to improve the sound quality within the Peoria Civic Center’s theater is nearly complete. The 600-thousand dollar project includes the overhaul of the facility’s entire sound system with new wiring, controls, speakers and sound board.

Civic Center General Manager Jim Wetherington says the old system was more than 30-years old.

“What we had was not adequate. It was fine for speech, but it wasn’t adequate for performance.”

Wetherington says the center typically had to rent sound systems out of house to serve the audio needs of certain shows. He says the first phase of the project is done and the next phase should be complete in October.

It was paid for through a state grant.
