State's Attorney: unlikely Peoria Schools purchase card use ‘criminal’

The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office is NOT further reviewing documents surrounding Peoria School District 150’s employee purchase card system. Peoria Public Radio’s Alex Rusciano reports the move comes after Peoria Police Detectives looked at the documents:

A letter from State’s Attorney Jerry Brady says the department looked at the procurement, or P-Card, systems at the request of Sharon Crews and Terry Knapp who question the spending items. Brady says it’s impossible to determine the purpose behind the purchases --including food and hotel rooms. District 150 Chief Legal Counsel  Rick Rettberg says any p-card purchases are documented with a receipt and a report of the purchase for approval:

“The administration has reviewed it’s procedures for processing those expenses, and it’s a rigorous review process.”

The State’s Attorney’s office says whether or not the purchases in question were authorized is a matter that could include losing p-card card privileges, paying back inappropriate purchases and even discharge, but likely would not rise to the level of criminal charges. School Board President Debbie Wolfmeyer says she’s satisfied that the district already has sufficient oversight of the p-card system.
