Peoria County Board considers adding two referenda on Nov. ballot

The Peoria County board will consider allowing voters to decide if City and County election services should be combined. Peoria Public Radio’s Alex Rusciano reports the Board will consider adding the question on the November ballot at its next meeting:

The measure, if put on the ballot and approved by voters, would create a five-member election commission board to oversee operations for the whole county. Board member Allen Mayer supports the measure. He says combined services would make things easier for voters on Election Day:

“If we can have it set up, so people don't have to worry about whether they’re in the city or the county, and elections anywhere in Peoria County, are just elections in Peoria County, that will greatly simplify things for voters,” Mayer says.

Some opposed to the measure expressed concern that the County wasn’t consulted enough when the idea of combining services was first floated. In other news, the Board will consider allowing voters to also decide whether to eliminate the Peoria County Recorder of Deeds office. That referendum, if approved, would also be on the November ballot
