State unemployment rate drops while Peoria jobs decline

The unemployment rate in June fell in every metro area in the state for the third month in a row.

The Peoria Metropolitan area’s rate dipped to 7.3-percent last month, a nearly two percent decline from the same time last year. But the Illinois Department of Employment Security says last month’s number is up slightly from May.

The number of jobs in the Peoria area also declined by 25-hundred full time positions compared to a year ago.

Losses took place in manufacturing and transportation.  Gains were seen in government and construction jobs.
