The murder trial of Nathan Leuthold continued Wednesday with testimony from the woman he allegedly was having an affair with. Peoria Public Radio’s Alex Rusciano reports the 20-year-old Lithuanian sponsor student was granted immunity in exchange for her testimony:
Prosecutors say Luthold killed his wife Denise so he could continue seeing AinaDobilaite. She testified she traveled with Nathan Leuthold to Europe multiple times, fired guns at a friend's house and went horseback riding with Leuthold. Dobilaite also read an e-mail that Leuthold sent her a month before the murder:
“ ‘I let you down and I’m sorry. I’m not going to make excuses, that would not be fair to you. You deserve someone who respects you and puts their relationship first, and from now on I want to do all that I can to be that person. There is nothing more important to me than you in this relationship. I am so blessed to have you in my life and I know it, ‘“ Dobilaite read [of Leuthold’s email].
Dobilaite also says Leuthold paid for her spa treatments, bought her a jacket and they also met at hotels in Chicago. But she was firm when Peoria County State’s Attorney Jerry Brady asked about the depth of their relationship:
BRADY: You have told Nathan Leuthold that you love him, correct?
DOBILAITE: No.
TRANSLATOR: No.
Dobilaite stopped using a translator during testimony after she criticized his accuracy. She says that Leuthold was her sponsor, she worked for him and knew the Leuthold family since childhood.
