East Peoria’s budget for next fiscal year makes no changes to city services or staffing levels. The spending plan also puts about $1 million towards road maintenance. Commissioner Dan Decker says he wants to see more funding for road upkeep. But he also says new road projects, like Centennial and Summit Drive, have used money that otherwise could go to general repairs across the city:
“We have spent a lot of money on roads, something thought on building new roads or in different areas than historical street maintenance. So we’ve done well and we’ll continue to stretch those dollars.
The city’s budget also turned down $1.5 million in staffing and item requests from various departments. City administrators say the move aims to save money amid rising salary, pension and healthcare costs.
