A summer reading program expands

Area preschool students can earn tickets to a Peoria Chief’s baseball game with their reading skills. The Chiefs and PNC Bank are partnering with the Heart of Illinois United Way to expand the Homer’s Reading Program, named after the team’s mascot.

The United Way’s ‘Success By 6’ program will give 2,800 books to area preschool students to read. Students can ‘round the bases’ for each book they complete and get free tickets to a Chief’s game in August by reading four books in the program.
