A local attorney will serve as Peoria County’s head public defender starting May 1st. Jeff Flanagan is replacing Thomas Penn, who served as public defender for 30 years. Penn’s appointment expires at the end of the month.
The move comes as some Peoria County Board members have questioned the efficiency of the current public defender service. Judges in the 10th Judicial Circuit also issued bids for the service earlier this year.
