Quinn tours tornado damage in Washington

Governor Pat Quinn says the state will help tornado-ravaged communities across Illinois with "every asset we have."

The governor traveled to central and southern Illinois communities to see storm damage first hand.

"It is important that we see ourselves as a family, that we come together when something very dangerous and difficult and deadly happens to the people. We're all in this together."

Sunday's storms killed at least six people and injured dozens of others. Hundreds of homes and buildings were damaged or destroyed.

Jonathon Monken is director of the Illinois Emergency Management Agency. He says the late-season storms were an "unprecedented event" in the state for November.
The governor visited Tazewell County community of Washington, where between 250 and 500 buildings were damaged or destroyed and about 120 people were injured. He's also stopped in Diamond, Gifford, Brookport and New Minden.
