The Peoria Riverfront Museum is opening free to the public Saturday. Peoria County is hosting the event promoting scientific history in Peoria. “Science Rocks!” includes free admission to all museum galleries and the planetarium.People can learn about the USDA Ag Lab in Peoria and its role in producing penicillin. Different activities will be offered and visitors can talk with local scientists. Ann Schmitt is the Curator of Education for the museum. She says the free ‘community day’ means more people can learn at the museum:“Part of our mission… is to inspire life-long learning, but to inspire life-long learning for all. So it is important that we have days where anyone can come to the museum – so, free admission is a great way to do that.”Schmitt also says the event aims to educate people:“We want to get visitors excited about science, and give them the vision to see what scientists do to make our lives better. And envision themselves doing that eventually as a career, if they’re young people – or if they’re adults, just understanding what goes on in our community and appreciating the great scientific minds that work right here in Peoria.”“Science Rocks!” is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Peoria Riverfront Museum.
