Seven dead after central Illinois plane crash

A small plane with seven people on board crashed near Bloomington about midnight last night killing at seven passengers.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the twin-engine Cessna 414 took off from Indianapolis sometime after the NCAA Championship game and crashed near Route 9 and McClean County Road 2100 East, several miles from the Central Illinois Regional Airport.

The FAA is investigating. A National Transportation Safety Board investigator and public affairs officer are in route to the scene. There’s no initial word on what caused the crash.

A press conference is scheduled for noon.
