The death of a man who was found Monday along a trail on the south end of McNaughton Park in Pekin has been determined as “heart related,” according to the Tazewell County coroner.
The Pekin Park District Police responded to the area near the Sheridan Road trail entrance shortly before 7 p.m., following the report of a medical emergency. First responders found the man unresponsive and lying on the park trail.
In a social media post Tuesday, Coroner Charles Hanley identified the man as a 74-year-old from rural Delavan. Hanley did not provide the man’s name, but said he was “an avid long-distance runner.”
Hanley said preliminary autopsy findings showed the death resulted from a heart issue and no foul play is suspected. The case remains under investigation by the coroner’s office.
