Fifth District Peoria City Council member Denis Cyr speaks at a June 9 regular meeting.

Fifth District Peoria City Council member Denis Cyr is taking an extended leave of absence following a recent medical procedure.

Cyr will be away from his position through the end of September. The nature of the medical procedure was not disclosed.

“While I regret being away from my responsibilities during this time, this leave is necessary to allow me to focus on my recovery,” Cyr said in a statement released through the city. “As a result of this, I will be unable respond to phone calls, emails or other inquiries until my return.

“I want to reassure residents of the Fifth District that your concerns, questions and requests will continue to be addressed.”

Cyr thanked his constituents for their patience and encouraged them to contact fellow Peoria City Council members Zach Oyler, John Kelly or Kiran Velpula, who have agreed to assist district residents in his absence.
