Peoria Public Schools will be closed again Monday, Jan. 26, due to extreme cold and ongoing concerns for student safety — especially those who walk to school. Schools were closed Friday, too.

Although temperatures have slightly improved, conditions remain unsafe and the windchill is forecast to reach 17 degrees below zero.

A spokesperson from Peoria Public Schools said the district anticipates significantly low student attendance, so out of an abundance of caution and to ensure equitable and safe access for all students, the decision was made to cancel school for the day.

The school board meeting will proceed as scheduled on Monday.
