A 17-year-old boy is dead following a shooting Saturday night at the Lexington Hills Apartments on the west side of central Peoria.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood on Monday identified the teen as Matthew Day of Peoria. Harwood said Day suffered two gunshot wounds to his body and died instantly.
According to a Peoria Police Department media release, officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 3400 block of West Oakcrest Drive shortly before 11:30 p.m. On arrival, they found the teen unresponsive in an apartment with gunshot wounds to his torso.
The victim was taken by ambulance to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, where he was officially pronounced dead.
A second victim, a 21-year-old man, was found in a nearby apartment with gunshot wounds to his legs. He was taken to the hospital and his condition is considered stable.
Police canvassed the apartment complex looking for anyone with information about the shooting and possible camera coverage related to the incident.
