Peoria police have arrested two people on charges of aggravated arson and endangering the life or health of a child following an apartment fire Tuesday night.

According to a news release, Curtis McBride, 36, and Tkeyah Murray, 22, were taken into custody and transported to Peoria County Jail following the incident at the Lexington Hills Apartments in the 3400 block of Fallen Oak Lane.

First responders on scene shortly before 8:30 p.m. saw smoke coming from one of the units. Officers evacuated the building, but were told McBride, Murray and three children were still in the apartment.

The couple initially refused to leave, but were eventually removed from the residence safely.

Fire department personnel determined the source of the smoke as electronics that had been placed inside the oven. Additional investigation indicated the electronics had been reported stolen in a residential burglary.

McBride and Murray face a total of three counts of child endangerment.

Anyone with additional information related to the incident is asked to contact the Peoria Police Department.
