Peoria Police say a 15-year-old girl was grazed by a bullet Wednesday afternoon outside Manual High School.

A message on the department’s social media account posted shortly after 2 p.m. said officers were on the scene in the 800 block of South Griswold Street, and that the area had been secured.

The girl was taken to a local hospital. Her injury is not believed to be life-threatening.

In a statement, Peoria Public Schools District 150 said the shooting occurred more than a block away from the school, and that all students were returned to the building. The street in front of the school was blocked off for the police investigation.

“We are deeply grateful to the Peoria Police Department for their rapid and professional response,” the statement read. “Their presence and swift action ensured the safety of our students and staff, and they continue to investigate the incident thoroughly.”

An updated post from the police department indicated officers responded to the area following a ShotSpotter alert of eight rounds fired at 1:41 p.m. As of 3 p.m., Manual had been dismissed and students were exiting the building safely.

The police said no suspect information is available at this time.
