Peoria County will hold a hazardous household waste collection drive Saturday morning at Expo Gardens in Peoria.
The event is the first of three collections planned this year by the county’s Sustainability and Resource Conservation Department in conjunction with GFL Environmental.
Accepted materials include oil-based and latex paints, paint thinners, used motor oil, cleaning products, lawn and pool chemicals, and insecticides.
The list of items that will not be accepted includes lithium-ion batteries, fireworks and explosives, agricultural and commercial waste, and controlled substances.
The full lists of what can and cannot be brought to the collection and additional details can be found on the county’s recycling services website.
The event runs from 7 a.m.-noon and is for Peoria County residents only. Future collections are scheduled for Sept. 13 at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe and Oct. 4 at Alpha Park in Bartonville.
Emergency expo canceled
Inclement weather forced the cancellation of Wednesday’s Central Illinois Emergency Expo at the Shoppes at Grand Prairie.
The event intended to give several local emergency response agencies an opportunity to showcase their vehicles and equipment for the public.
The expo was originally scheduled for July 23, but was pushed back one week due to an extreme heat watch across the region. It will not be rescheduled.
