Bradley University will receive $2 million in state funding for capital improvements on campus.
Bradley President James Shadid called the grant award “a powerful affirmation” of the institution’s role in shaping Illinois’ future.
“Capital improvements are vital to creating a vibrant learning environment,” Shadid said in a news release. “This funding allows us to strategically enhance our campus in ways that directly support our students, faculty, staff, and the broader Peoria community.”
The announcement said planning already has started on how to put the funding toward projects intended to “enhance the academic experience, improve campus infrastructure, and strengthen Bradley’s community impact.”
The grant award, finalized in the state’s budget for the 2026 fiscal year, comes from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, through the Build Illinois bond fund.
Shadid said Bradley is grateful for the work of local legislators who helped secure the grant, including state Sen. Dave Koehler and state Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth.
“Their support ensures that Bradley remains a strong, forward-thinking institution that serves as a resource for our region and beyond,” he said.
