The Kewanee Police Department said Friday a body was discovered in a coordinated search between several agencies of several rural areas west of Kewanee.

According to to a Facebook post, the Kewanee Police Department, Henry County Sheriff's Office and Illinois State Police were notified by a concerned citizen who had found a body on one of their rural properties. Officers verified the discovery and the location was processed by the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit.

Police said, due to the condition of the body, no positive identification could be confirmed. An autopsy is scheduled in Peoria for early next week.

In the post, police thanked the concerned citizen who discovered the body for their "initiative and willingness to assist in the search."

Officials say further information will be released as it becomes "appropriate to share."

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Kewanee Police, Henry County Sheriff's Office or the Illinois State Police.
