Work is set to begin Monday on a $7.1 million reconstruction of a stretch of Maxwell Road north of Peoria International Airport.

The Peoria County Highway Department project will turn Maxwell into a three-lane roadway with a bi-directional center turn lane between Fauber Road and Middle Road.

The plan also includes installing a new water main and storm sewer, as well as pavement, curb, gutter and sidewalk improvements, and adding a multi-use path.

Middle Road also will be reconstructed between Maxwell and Dirksen Parkway.

Access to Maxwell's side roads, including Middle Road, Morris Lane, West Fairview Road, and Charleston Road, will be maintained throughout the project.

Construction is expected to be completed by June 2026, barring any major weather delays or other unforeseen circumstances.

Weekly updates on the project will be available on the Peoria County website.
