At least one of Pekin’s sitting city council members will not return to their seat after April’s election.
Council member Lloyd Orrick did not file for candidacy before Monday's 5 p.m. deadline. One of the longest-serving members of the council, Orrick was originally elected as a commissioner in 1991, before Pekin switched to a managerial form of government.
Two other city council members have terms expiring this year — Dave Nutter and Chris Onken. Both filed for re-election.
The incumbents face a field of challengers: Christopher Hogue, Matthew Johnson, Jimmie Fletcher and Peg Phillips have all filed for the seats.
The three candidates that receive the most votes will fill the expiring council seats.
Hogue, Johnson, Nutter and Onken all filed simultaneously when the application period opened at 8 a.m. on Nov. 12. The City of Pekin will hold a lottery drawing at 11 a.m. Nov. 26 in Pekin City Hall’s Council Chambers to determine the order the candidates will appear on April’s ballot.
Election Day is April 1, 2025.
