A child is dead after a shooting at Peoria's Cityscape Apartments on Sunday evening.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said Monday that 10-year-old Torres Lamar Johnson II of Peoria was shot in the chest. He likely died within seconds and was pronounced dead just after 8 p.m. at an area hospital. That's less than half an hour after the shooting happened.

Police say ShotSpotter alerted officers to two rounds fired.

Bridgett Carter-Meachem, a Busey Bank senior vice president, is opening an account at the bank to raise money for Johnson's funeral expenses.

There is no suspect information. Anybody with more information about the case is encouraged to call police.

This story was updated upon the coroner confirming the victim was 10 years old, not 12. The story was also updated after the coroner released a statement clarifying the victim resided in Peoria, not Springfield.
