Frank Abdnour served as supervisor for the Township of Peoria starting in 2017 until losing re-election in 2021.

Former Peoria Township supervisor Frank Abdnour is running again for his old job this time, as an independent.

Abdnour was the incumbent when he was defeated by LaTrina Leary on a two-vote margin in the 2021 Democratic primary.

Abdnour says he believes the township supervisor should be non-partisan. He says he has a "proven record" and wants to build upon past successes.

The candidate received more than $15,000 when he filed for unemployment benefits after losing his race. He wasn't eligible for that money, but he says it was an honest mistake. The Illinois Department of Employment Security returned some $12,120 in funds to the township, per Leary.

Peoria Township includes much of, but not all, of the city of Peoria. The township manages property tax assessments and public aid. Unlike most townships, Peoria isn't responsible for highway maintenance.
