A rural Mackinaw teenager was sentenced to a total of 60 years in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday to conspiring to have her parents murdered more than two years ago.
Dahlia Bolin, 17, took a plea deal in Tazewell County Court, admitting to first-degree murder, murder for hire, attempted murder and conspiracy. Her three co-defendants also entered guilty pleas Tuesday to similar charges.
A statement from the office of Tazewell County State’s Attorney Kevin Johnson called the outcome “the culmination and result of an exemplary investigation by the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office.”
“Within 48 hours of the offense, all four of the defendants had been located and detained, and the two weapons used in the offense recovered,” the statement read. "Subsequent interviews of the defendants resulted in admissions by three of the defendants."
Under sentencing guidelines and with credit for time served, Bolin is expected to spend more than 54 years behind bars. Bolin was 15 at the time of the October 2021 home invasion that resulted in the fatal shooting of her mother, Rebecca, and wounding of her father Douglas.
She was originally charged as a juvenile shortly after the crime, but the case was transferred to felony court last April.
Sage Raueber, 21, Nathaniel Maloney, 20, and Andre Street, 19, all accepted guilty pleas to first-degree murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy. Maloney received a sentence totaling 66 years, Street received 55 years, and Raeuber got 30 years.
According to the prosecutors’ affidavit of probable cause, Tazewell County deputies responded to an emergency call at the Bolin residence on American Legion Road at 9:15 p.m. on Oct. 22, 2021. They found Dahlia outside the home.
She initially told the deputies she was in the basement and heard footsteps upstairs. She then discovered her parents had been shot and briefly spoke to her father before using his cell phone to call 911. Rebecca Bolin died at the scene.
The affidavit says that after additional questioning, Dahlia admitted to entering a plan with Maloney, Street and Rauber to have her parents killed. Prosecutors say Raeuber drove Maloney and Street to the Bolin home to commit the attack.
