The trial of 8-year-old Navin Jones' father began Monday in Peoria with jury selection.
Brandon Walker is charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the death of Navin. Prosecutors with the Peoria County State's Attorney's Office dropped four of the original six charges.
Navin died March 29, 2022 after he was found unresponsive in his parents' home. His cause of death was ruled to be from extreme abuse and neglect.
Stephanie Jones, Navin's mother, pleaded guilty Thursday on one count of first-degree murder in Peoria County Circuit Court. Five other counts were dropped.
Walker's trial will continue on Tuesday morning.
