Peoria County coroner identifies body found behind Campustown Subway as 75-year-old Robert Moore

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood has identified the 75-year-old man found dead Sunday behind the Subway in Peoria’s Campustown Shopping Center.

Harwood said Robert Moore was found shortly before noon on Sunday. Moore was reportedly unhoused. The findings of an autopsy to determine Moore’s cause of death are inconclusive.

“It did demonstrate some medical issues that you would probably expect out of most 75-year-old people, to have some sort of clinical disease, which is kind of what we discovered,” Harwood said. “But we didn't find anything acutely wrong that would cause his death.”

No foul play is suspected and the results of a toxicology test are pending.

The coroner’s office received an outpouring of offers on social media to cover Moore’s funeral expenses. Harwood said the office also was able to locate a cousin of Moore’s.

“But he [Moore] did have resources available that we can take care of his cremation and burial,” Harwood said. “So we will take care of that for him.”

According to some Campustown business employees, Moore was a known figure in the area and was generally well-liked by the business community.
